My husband’s ex girlfriend in college graduated with high honors in Mechanical engineering. Yet she was dull and dim (redundancy intended)…I have no idea how she passed her classes, let alone keep an A average. She could not apply her knowledge in any real world practical application. But very well educated (she’s some token engineer in Florida now, probably in a high position), and our best tests might indicate she had a high IQ (I don’t know).

Morpheus, yes, you’ve definitely nailed the main reason. The game requires stark, difficult, ruthless tradeoffs and sacrifice plays. The importance of Looks and Kindness are rather dramatic from a male POV and show up when he can play “Weird Science” and design his own mate.
I’d love to see what a more sophisticated academic research team could do with a study framework like this, but I think the basic design is pretty elegant. I actually took the point-allocation template from various role-playing games that I enjoyed as a boy.
